Bite-Style Treat Guide

Knowing your dog's bite-style is vital when choosing treats to ensure you pick ones that match their individual size, experience & jaw pressure. Below are a few suggestions for the different types of chewers:

The Gentle Gnawer (The Nibbler)

These dogs take their time. They gently lick, rasp, and slowly wear down a chew over long, peaceful sessions. They rarely try to break off huge pieces.

Long, stringy, or rock-hard items present immediate choking or gastrointestinal blockage hazards for them. They require close supervision and highly digestible, easily breakable, or bite-sized rewards.

The Flat-Faced Selector ("Brachy" - Brachycephalic Breeds)

Flat-faced breeds (such as Bulldogs, Pugs, Frenchies, and Boston Terriers) possess uniquely shortened jaw structures, rotated teeth, and narrower airways. Because they lack the muzzle length required to safely hold and steadily wear down traditional dense chews, they are highly prone to gulping large chunks whole, presenting an elevated choking risk. They require close supervision and rewards that either break down instantly or require licking action rather than biting.

BRACHYCEPHALIC SAFETY RULE: Strictly avoid feeding hard, unyielding structures (like Hollow Cow Hooves or Buffalo Horns) or large, rubbery flaps (like Cow or Pig Ears) to flat-faced breeds. Their crowded teeth can easily fracture, and their panic-gulping habits create a risk of swallowing these shapes whole, causing an airway or intestinal obstruction.
