Dogtropolis Sister Screened Audit

The Sister-Screened™ 5-Point Audit

How we choose the best for your dog

When we started Dogtropolis, we decided that "good enough" simply wasn't an option. Having spent almost 20 years in nursing, we know that the best care comes from paying attention to the details that others might miss.

We don’t just pick treats because they look good on a shelf; we carefully screen them to make sure they are suitable, honest and traceable. To do that, every single product must pass our Sister-Screened™ 5-Point Audit.

This is our way of doing the homework for you, so you can shop with confidence and focus on the fun part - spoiling your dog!

Treat Levels
Treat Level Grading

The Audit
1. Ingredient Integrity: No Guesswork. We audit every label for total transparency. We look for clearly named, high-quality proteins and say no to vague "animal derivatives." If we wouldn't be 100% happy knowing exactly what it is, it doesn't make it into our store.

2. Our Triage Scale: The Right Fit. Every dog chews differently, so we use our professional experience to "triage" our treats into three easy safety tiers. This helps you find a suitable match for your dog’s jaw pressure: Level 1 (Gentle), Level 2 (Moderate) or Level 3 (Power).

3. Honest Ingredients: Pure & Simple. We reject "aesthetic" additives like bleaching agents or synthetic dyes used just for looks. While we allow safe, purposeful ingredients (like vegetable glycerin in our veggie treats to keep them chewy and safe), we stay away from anything that doesn't benefit your dog.

4. Trusted Sourcing: Traceability. We focus on UK and EU sourcing, so we know exactly where our treats come from. If we find something amazing from further afield, it is strictly overseen by our trusted UK suppliers to ensure it meets our standards.

5. The Staffy Check: Real-World Approval. The final test happens at home! Every item is trialled by our three resident Staffies. If they don’t love it or if it doesn't stand up to their standard of fun and durability, we don't stock it.

The Sister-Screened™ Q&A

What does "Sister-Screened" mean?

It means every product in our shop has undergone a professional audit. Our founder spent her career in children's nursing, reaching the level of Sister, where overseeing standards and managing risk as a professional requirement. We apply that same disciplined mindset to our treats - checking for ingredient integrity, sourcing transparency, and suitability before anything reaches our shelves.

Are you a Veterinary practice?

No. We are professional quality auditors. While we don't provide clinical veterinary advice, we use the skills learned in a senior nursing career, specifically Triage and Clinical Audit, to screen out low-quality products and assist you in choosing the right level of treat for your dog.

Why do you use a "Triage" scale for dog treats?

Because not every dog chews the same way. In a professional environment, triage is about assessing risk and priority. We apply this to our "Triage Scale" (Levels 1, 2, and 3) so you can match a treat’s suitability to your dog.

Why do you source mostly from the UK and EU?

Traceability is a safety requirement, not a luxury. By keeping our sourcing local to the UK and EU, we ensure higher animal welfare and stricter hygiene regulations. For our global innovations, we don't just buy off a shelf; we use UK-based specialists to audit those lines, ensuring our accountability never wavers, no matter where the ingredient starts its journey.

I see additives in your veggie treats. Aren't these bad?

Not at all - we focus on absolute Functional Integrity. Our quality standards strictly distinguish between "aesthetic" chemicals (like synthetic dyes, chemical bleaches, and artificial flavorings used just for looks) and essential, natural Functional Ingredients.

If an ingredient doesn't serve a direct safety, structural, or well-being purpose for your dog, it's out. We purposefully utilise three natural, food-grade compounds in our veggie treats for vital safety reasons:

Vegetable Glycerine: This is a natural, plant-derived humectant compound used to retain moisture and keep the molded vegetable structure soft, pliable, and chewy. It stops the treat from drying out and shattering into sharp, brittle choking hazards on the shelf . We use premium, plant-based vegetable glycerine rather than generic glycerin, which can be a cheap byproduct of biofuel production.

Potassium Sorbate: This is a natural, food-grade preservative compound derived from organic mineral salts. It serves a vital safety purpose by actively keeping the chewy veggie treats fresh and completely safe from mold growth on the shelf.

Calcium Carbonate: This is a natural mineral compound used to fortify and structurally bind the extruded vegetable dough, ensuring the treat holds its functional shape and texture during chewing.

By refusing synthetic chemicals and sticking strictly to clean, natural functional elements, we ensure your dog receives a premium, wholesome reward that is completely free from artificial additives or preservatives!

Who does the final testing?

Once a treat passes our professional audit, it goes to our resident testing team: our three Staffies. They provide the "real-world" verification for joy and durability. If it passes this final test, it’s Dogtropolis approved.

Can a "Staffy-Approved" treat work for my small dog?

Absolutely. The "Staffy Check" is our ultimate durability test. If a treat survives a Stafford's jaw without splintering or failing, we know it has the structural integrity required for our "Power" level. Conversely, if our dogs find a "Gentle" treat too high value to ignore, we know the palatability is exactly where it needs to be for even the fussiest eater.

Disclaimer
While our Sister-Screened™ process is led by a professional nurse and based on high-level quality audit and triage principles, we are not veterinarians. Our triage scale is a guide for suitability and durability; always supervise your dog with any chew and consult your vet for specific medical or dietary concerns.
